Sue Howells

Sue Howells was born in Birmingham in 1948, her career as an artist began at a late stage after taking a course in watercolour in 1982. Soon after she was selling paintings in local galleries, interior design studios and restaurants. 

In 1992, Sue became an elected member of Birmingham Watercolour Society and the Birmingham Art Circle. She became an Associate Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 1994 and was elected a full member of the Society of Women Artists in 2001 after attending a foundation course in art at Bournville College of Art in 2000. 

She works predominantly in watercolour but enjoys the exploration of other mediums. Known for her interpretation of landscapes and buildings, Sue has developed a bold and vivid style to express her view of the world and bring perspective to her paintings.

While her paintings have many influences, regular trips to Wales and Italy alongside an intense curiosity towards nature has allowed her to create strong works exploring every faucet of watercolour. These variations in light, changes in landscape and colour produce a range of moods within her paintings.

Sue Howells remains one of the top selling artists in the UK. She provides work for Harrods, John Lewis and galleries across the world including paintings for television programs and advertisements.
