Rosaleen Sanderson

Rosaleen Sanderson, born in Belfast, currently lives and works in County Down. Rosaleen studied Fine Art at the Belfast College of Art and later studied the History of Art at Birmingham City University. 

Her focus and interest lies within the linear analysis and forensic observation of the human form using both delicate and bold line work to create form and movement. The working drawings of the Italian Renaissance artists have been a major influence. 

Though the dancers and classic nudes are frequently Rosaleen’s subjects , the inspiration of her recent work has been the movements of rock climbers as they use all their physical and mental resources to achieve their goal .  

Though working mainly in oils Rosaleen was inspired to use rope to create a number of the artworks , as climbers rely so much on rope as they struggle to the summit.

She was initially drawn to this subject by the grace , balance , power and sinewy strength of the climbers ; though she also sees a parallel in everyone’s life when there are periods that take real mental tenacity just to get through the challenges that life throws at them.

Rosaleen has exhibited widely and has work in public and private collections throughout Ireland , England , Europe ,Canada , USA and Australia.
