Robert was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2020 having to undergo an emergency awake craniotomy. This procedure risked his ability to paint and potentially his life but he miraculously recovered and endeavoured to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity through an exhibition of his artwork in The Merchant Hotel, Belfast.  Supported by Gallery One, Robert held an exhibition of work in the Rita Duffy suite with the proceeds going to the Brain Tumour Charity, something which he hopes to continue to do in the future. 

Robert’s work has been inspired by his love of nature, animals, and the sea. Having grown up around horses he was fascinated by their strength and elegance; characteristics that he also observed in ocean waves.
