Des Welsh
Des Welsh was born in Belfast in 1955. He currently lives and works from his home in Bangor, County Down. Des spent his working life, over 40 years, as a Technical Illustrator in Shorts Aircraft Factory in East Belfast. There, he produced drawings for technical manuals/publications for various aircrafts.
Des is a self taught with no formal education in art working primarily with acrylics, but also enjoys the simplicity of pencil. Landscape, wildlife and human portraiture are his passion. His portrayal of horses and stags convey the power and serenity of these creatures. While the Giants Causeway is of strong interest to him, as he likes to convey the cosmic forces at play when the striking basalt formations were born, with colour and imagination. Also close to his heart are iconic portraits of people famous in music, film and sport.
